MANILA, Philippines?Another international Filipino star is born.
Vincent Bueno, a Vienna-based Filipino singer was named grand champion of the Austrian talent competition ?Musical! Die Show? held Friday night (Saturday morning, Manila time), winning over Austrian natives with his superb performances in the finale that impressed the European audience.
?Musical! Die Show? is a reality-based talent competition similar to American Idol but goes beyond pop song interpretations and tackles contestants? theatrical prowess and dancing skills. Like American Idol, televiewers vote for the winning contestant by phone or SMS.
Bueno proved he was the best of the 400 contestants that initially joined the program. Through satellite television broadcast or Internet video, people across Europe or in other areas not covered by the local Austrian ORF channel were amazed by Bueno?s renditions of popular Broadway classics such as ?Greased Lightning? from Grease and ?Music of the Night? from Phantom of the Opera, ?Jesus Christ Superstar,? and even ?Why God Why?? from Miss Saigon, which was the launching pad for Filipino artists, such as Lea Salonga, to successful international careers.
He received a 67 percent of all the televotes cast, which is considered a ?landslide? win, with the second placer, Austrian Eva Klikovics mustering 37 percent.
Bueno won a total of 50,000 euros as grand prize.
