ILOILO CITY, Philippines -- A former soldier was shot dead and a 15-year-old boy was wounded in a confrontation over land ownership on Boracay Island Monday, a police official said Tuesday.
Ex-Army sergeant Vicente Maming died of multiple gunshot wounds after he shot it out with security personnel guarding a property in Sitio (sub-village) Cagban in Barangay (village) Manoc-Manoc around 4:30 p.m., Senior Inspector Auxilio Dador, chief of the Boracay Special Tourist Protection Office (BSTPO), said in an interview Tuesday morning.
Alden Odencio, 15, was wounded in the crossfire and was brought to the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital in the capital town of Kalibo on the Panay mainland.
Maming had earlier entered the compound and insisted he owned the property that is also being claimed by Polechem Company, said Dador in a telephone interview.
The BSTPO arrested 21 security guards involved in the shootout.
