LOS ANGELES -- Britney Spears' parents have accused the singer's confidante and manager of drugging their daughter and trying to control her life, newly released court papers showed Tuesday.
Lynne Spears made the allegations in documents filed to support a restraining order that was issued against Sam Lutfi by a Los Angeles judge last week, following the pop-star's latest mental health scare.
"Mr Lutfi drugged Britney," Lynne Spears states. "He has cut Britney's home phone line and removed her cell phone chargers. He claims to control everything."
Under the terms of the restraining order issued last week, Lutfi, 33, must stay at least 250 yards away from Spears, her parents and the homes of the singer and her family.
He has also been ordered not to have any email or telephone contact with the 26-year-old star, who is in the psychiatric unit of the UCLA Medical Center following her admission in the early hours of last Thursday.
A hearing to discuss whether the restraining order should be extended has been scheduled for February 22.
The unsealed documents released Tuesday give an insight into Spears' state of mind prior to her admission into care last week.
Lynne Spears said last week's medical drama began when she saw reports that her daughter had been seen crying near her home after an argument with Lutfi.
Spears' parents then went to the singer's home to find their daughter agitated and unable to "stop moving," Lynne Spears states.
"Britney spoke to me in a tone and with the level of understanding of a very young girl." She said at one point her daughter picked up a bottle of pills and asked what "insomnia" meant, according to her mother.
Last week's hospital drama is the latest in a series of setbacks for Spears, who was rushed to hospital for the second time in less than a month.
In the earlier incident, the singer was wheeled out of her home following a standoff which began when she refused to release her two children to ex-husband Kevin Federline's bodyguard.
A judge limited Spears' access to her children in October after she failed to submit to random drug testing as demanded at an earlier hearing where the court ruled she was a "habitual and continuous drug user."
Spears has been rarely out of the tabloid headlines since her split from Federline in late 2006.
She was repeatedly photographed out partying while wearing no underwear, bizarrely shaved her head at a public salon, and attacked a paparazzi's car with an umbrella before finally entering rehab.
