MADRID?The former drummer with the legendary Swedish pop group ABBA has been found dead after apparently falling through a window in an accident at his home in Spain, police said Monday.

They said the body of Ola Brunkert, 61, who lived alone at his home on the Mediterranean island of Majorca, was found by a neighbor late Sunday in his garden in a pool of blood with a cut to his neck.

Police said he appeared to have fallen through a window at his home in the town of Arta.

Spanish media said the first results from an autopsy confirmed the death was accidental.

"All indications point to an accidental death," a spokesman for the local authority in Majorca told AFP.

Spanish media also quoted the mayor of Arta as saying Bronkert had been depressed for some months following the death of his wife.

The Swede worked as a session drummer with ABBA, which recorded and performed in 1970s and early 80s. He also toured with the group.

Brunkert retired to Majorca, where he performed with his jazz group.

ABBA's four stars Bjoern Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faeltskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad became international sensations with hits such as "Money, Money, Money," "Waterloo," "Fernando" and "Dancing Queen."

Despite having broken up a quarter of a century ago, the group still sells between two and three million albums a year.

"It's tragic," Benny Andersson told Swedish daily Expressen's online edition.

"I remember him as a good friend when we worked together in the mid-1970s. He was a very creative musician who contributed a lot when we toured and worked in the studio," Bjoern Ulvaeus told Expressen.

"We didn't socialize much but I miss him as a touring pal and as a very good and creative musician. He was one of the best," Ulvaeus said.
