Hospital worker fired for accessing Farrah Fawcett records

LOS ANGELES -- A worker at Los Angeles' UCLA Medical Center has been fired for improperly accessing Farrah Fawcett's medical records, one month after two dozen employees were disciplined for peeking at Britney Spears's file, it was reported on Thursday.

The Los Angeles Times quoted the UCLA's chief compliance and privacy officer Carole Klove as saying that an investigation was launched last year after news of Fawcett's cancer returning appeared in the tabloid National Enquirer.

Lawyers for the former "Charlie's Angels" actress had raised concerns that information from Fawcett's records was being leaked or sold to the media.

However Klove told the Times that the hospital found no evidence that the worker had leaked or sold the information, and did not identify the worker citing employee privacy.

"Our patients need to know that they can trust that when they come to UCLA, that their information will be kept safe and secure," Klove told the Times. "When and if we find inappropriate disclosures, we do take action, and that disciplinary action can include termination."

Citing an anonymous source, the Times report said the worker involved had now been dismissed.

The new revelations come just weeks after reports that UCLA was firing 13 workers and disciplining 12 others for accessing troubled singer Spears's files after she was admitted to the facility's psychiatric unit earlier this year.
