MANILA, Philippines—GMA Network Inc. Sunday said it would seek a reversal of a Quezon City Regional Trial Court’s decision clearing veteran journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdes and ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. of breach of contract charges.
In a statement to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, GMA said Judge Tita Marilyn Payoyo-Villordon “failed to consider that an officer of a television station cannot at the same time act as a talent of a program of a competing television station.”
In her June 23 ruling, Villordon dismissed GMA’s complaint against Valdes and ABS-CBN, saying the broadcast journalist did not commit an illegal act when she joined ABS-CBN as she had already resigned from GMA.
“Certainly there is an obvious conflict of interest when an executive of a television station works as a talent in a competing television station,” GMA said. Marlon Ramos
