MANILA, Philippines—Actor-director Abbo dela Cruz, who also used the screen name Rico Mambo, died of a heart attack while riding his bike early Tuesday morning at his home in Mira Monte, Lucban, Quezon.
He was 55.
Dela Cruz had a mild heart attack two years ago. He was also diagnosed with diabetes, said his brother Uro, a television director.
Dela Cruz is survived by wife Teresita and children Sia, Weng-weng, Misty, Paola and Jay-jay.
Dela Cruz megged films like “Misteryo sa Tuwa” (1984) “Hubad na Pangarap” (1987), “Totoy Mola” (1997) and “Katawan” (1999).
As an actor, he appeared in film classics like “Oro, Plata, Mata” (1982) and ”Orapronobis” (1989).
Dela Cruz’s remains lie at his home in Lucban. Interment is tentatively set on Saturday.
