LUCENA CITY, Philippines?Communist party spokesman Gregorio ?Ka Roger? Rosal came out of his hibernation to condole with the family and friends of the late broadcaster Fidela "Tiya Dely" Magpayo and fondly remembered their duet of an immortal Filipino love song over the phone.

?Isang karangalan para sa akin na minsan niyang paunlakan ang aking tawag at bigyan ng pagkakataon na siya ay makasaliw sa awiting "Lumang Simbahan (It was an honor when she accepted my call and agreed to sing ?Old Church? with me over the phone)," Rosal said in a statement, a copy of which was sent to the Philippine Daily Inquirer Tuesday afternoon.

Magpayo, considered the "First Lady" of Philippine radio, who worked as an anchor for 68 years, suffered a stroke on Saturday night, while on deck in the radio booth of dzRH and died on Monday night.

Rosal paid tribute to Magpayo and called her a solid institution in Philippine radio and her death brought sorrows to her million of avid listeners including himself.

I go, be it in the mountains, I always listen to the sweet voice of Tiya Dely when I rest at night. I may not have agreed with her perspectives on politics, culture and life, but I followed her entertaining radio dramas and on-air advice),? Rosal said.

Rosal, an eloquent speaker in the native tongue, also praised Magpayo?s competence in the Tagalog language.

The Communist Party of the Philippines spokesman said Magpayo?s legions of fan would surely miss her.

?Ang kanyang pangalan at alaala ay mananatiling nakatatak sa kamalayan ng mamamayang Pilipino (Her name and memory will always be etched in the consciousness of Filipino citizens),? Rosal said.
