MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE 2) A popular actress was hurt when her vehicle was hit by a truck in Pangasinan, police officials said.

Joyce Reintegrado, 28, popularly known by her screen name Joyce Jimenez, sustained physical injuries when her car, a Toyota 4 Runner Wagon with plate number WBJ-101, rolled over a rice field in Barangay (village) Anonas in Urdaneta City, they said.

The accident happened after Jimenez’s driver, Sandy Juno, allegedly avoided a public utility bus that counterflowed “thereby avoiding the impending collision,” said Police Officer 3 Marlon Paraluan of the Urdaneta City Police. The incident occurred at around 2 a.m.

Jimenez's vehicle was traveling along the southbound direction of the National Highway while the unidentified PUV bus was coming from the northbound lane.

“Unfortunately, [Juno] lost control of the vehicle that rolled over towards the rice field. As a result, the Toyota vehicle was a total wreck and all the occupants sustained physical injuries,” Paraluan said.

The accident destroyed P15,000 worth of palay ready for harvest, Paraluan said.

Jimenez was rushed to the Medical City in Pasig City where she had been declared out of danger.

“At the present time, lahat ng x-rays ni Joyce, pati yung physical exam niya sa abdomen, lahat naman is normal. So ang main problem lang ngayon ay i-su-suture lang yung lacerations niya sa forehead. And after that most probably, tomorrow (Tuesday), we can discharge her,” said Dr. Rommel Menguito, attending physician in a press conference aired over GMA-7’s “24 Oras” newscast on Monday.
