LOS ANGELES -- "Hannah Montana: The Movie," the film version of the popular Disney TV series, sang its way to the top of the North American box office in its opening weekend, preliminary figures showed Sunday.

The movie, which raked in $34 million, even beat the filmed concert of Hannah Montana -- real name Miley Cyrus -- that hit the screens in February 2008 and netted $31.1 million in three days.

Car chase movie "Fast & Furious," starring Vin Diesel, came in second with $28.7 million, bringing total receipts in two weeks to $118 million, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

"Monsters and Aliens," an animated tale of a ragtag group of monsters who save the world from destruction, took third place with $22.6 million, raising $141 million three weeks after its opening.

Mall-cop comedy "Observe and Report," starring Seth Rogen and Ray Liotta, came in fourth place with $11 million in its opening weekend.

"Knowing," a time-travel drama starring Nicolas Cage, came in fifth with $6.6 million, totaling $68 million in its fourth week, followed by buddy film "I Love You, Man" with $6.4 million and $59 million total also in four weeks.

In seventh place, taking in $5.7 million, was "The Haunting in Connecticut." The thriller about a family living in a converted funeral parlor made $46 million since it opened three weeks ago.

The graphic novel-turned movie "Dragonball Evolution" opened this weekend with $4.6 million in takings, putting it in eighth place on the box office chart.

The comedy tale "Adventureland," about a recent graduate who, to his surprise, finds the perfect job at a fairground, took ninth place with $3.4 million, for a total $11.4 million in two weeks.

Bringing up the rear in 10th place, was Julia Roberts spy tale "Duplicity," which took in $2.9 million, for a four-week total of $36.8 million.
