LOS ANGELES?Beatles guitarist George Harrison received a posthumous star on Hollywood's "Walk of Fame" here Tuesday at a ceremony attended by his family and former band-mate Paul McCartney.

The honor for Harrison, who died from cancer in 2001 aged 58, came as Capitol Records announced an upcoming release of the guitarist's music.

Harrison's widow Olivia and his son Dhani accepted the star at a ceremony attended by around 1,000 fans and well-wishers.

Some 2,382 stars have been laid in the pavement of Hollywood Boulevard, one of Los Angeles's most popular tourist districts.

Harrison, often known as the "quiet Beatle," was known primarily as a guitarist, with McCartney and John Lennon responsible for much of the group's song-writing in its early years.

However he later wrote some of the group's best known tracks, including "Taxman," "Here Comes the Sun," and "Something."
