MANILA, Philippines—Thousands of Filipino fans are in for twice the fun this Saturday, as Season 7 American Idol winner David Cook rocks it out again with his runner-up David Archuleta, just a year since they won in the highly coveted singing competition.

Ironically, the Davids were surprised they created a sensation, with at least a thousand concert tickets sold (and still selling)—and the VIP section sold-out in one of the major ticketing firms.

“There’s maybe a hundred and two people following us at the mall and that doesn’t happen at home. It was really very humbling,” an awed Cook, 26, told a press conference at Edsa Shangri-la.

Archuleta, also astonished at the Filipinos’ warm response, promised to give a good show.

“Filipinos are definitely very supportive of American Idol and so it’s really great to give a good show for them,” the younger David said, as fans aged five and up glee to the smiley ‘Idol’.

As excitement for the gig builds up, the Davids said they are having loads of fun in the country.

For one, they’re on a mango-eating spree.

And yes, the rugged-looking Cook would love to try ‘balut’ (boiled duck embryo), a Filipino delicacy that even reality show Fear Factor used in one of its segments. For Archuleta, just dried mangoes.

Cook (the rocker) and Archuleta (the balladeer) may have also gone head-to-head during the finals. Now, each David claims the other David is the “cool” one.

Cook admitted that “when it comes to age” and to being cool, the18-year-old Archuleta is the obvious winner.

To which Archuleta responded: “He’s just being nice.”

The two Davids will perform in a back-to-back concert Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds in Pasay City.
