MANILA, Philippines?Filipino filmmaker Brillante Mendoza?s ?Kinatay? (?butchered?) received mixed reviews from critics when it premiered at the Cannes International Film Festival on Sunday.

Mendoza informed the Philippine Daily Inquirer about the reviews in a text message. He added that American director Quentin Tarantino, a previous winner at Cannes, attended the premiere of ?Kinatay.?

Tarantino?s ?Inglorious Basterds? is competing with ?Kinatay? for the Palme D?Or, Cannes? highest prize this year.
