MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE) Malacañang has stepped into the video scandal showing a controversial cosmetic surgeon with several women, including a sexy starlet, in steamy scenes.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita urged Wednesday the women supposedly victimized in the videos to press charges, noting that, “anything that is offensive to public moral must be sanctioned.”
“We will support the clamor for sanctions against the offending doctor,” he said.
The alleged sexual escapades of Doctor Hayden Kho with Katrina Halili and other women are now circulating in the Internet and DVDs.
“It is disturbing,” Ermita told reporters, referring to the Kho sex videos.
Ermita said the Professional Regulation Commission should look into the matter and also ask the Philippine Medical Association to “think of some ways of giving sanction [punishment] to this particular person.”
In a privilege speech on Thursday, Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. sought the revocation of Kho’s license as he called the doctor “maniac,” “predator” and "pervert of the highest order."
Kho, boyfriend of celebrity physician Vicki Belo, is in the eye of the storm for allegedly videotaping his sexual adventures with some women in the past.
Three of these videos can be found in cyberspace and are known to have been passed from one email to another. Video pirates are also expected to take advantage and sell copies.
Ermita asked the public to “boycott” the sex videos, explaining that they would affect the “morals of society” especially with the Philippines being a Catholic country.
“Do not patronize them so those selling them would know that they won’t sell,” he said in Filipino, “that they would just find themselves in deeper trouble.”
Ermita also advised the public to be careful in the company of people who might take videos of them and later subject them to “anything that is offensive and embarrassing to your person.”
Halili went to the National Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday to press charges against Kho.
“Dapat magbayad siya para hindi na gawin ng ibang lalaki sa amin, sa mga babae, para wala nang mabiktima (He should pay for it so that other men will not do the same to women, so that there will be no more victims),” Halili told reporters as she was leaving the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
“Hindi ako uurong. Napakawalanghiya niya. Hindi ko sila uurungan [I will not back down. He has no shame. There’s no turning back],” she said.
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said Kho could be jailed for six years or more if found guilty of violating the laws against women.
Gonzalez said the persons behind the production of the video and its proliferation may be held liable either as accessories or accomplices in the commission of the crime.
He said those behind the video should seek professional help.
“Even the one who is instrumental for doing that should have probably to undergo some psychological [treatment],” Gonzalez said.
“Just what do you get out of that? To prove your manhood? Or are you an exhibitionist?” he added.
Asked whether he thought Kho should be stripped of his license, Gonzalez said: “Well, that’s unprofessional conduct.”
The Bureau of Immigration placed Kho on its watch list on orders of Gonzalez.
Kho was drawn into the showbiz circuit by Belo, beauty care expert to a lot of actors and actresses, including Halili.
Kho and Belo broke up months ago when she discovered his flings through the video clips in his computer.
The video clips somehow got into the Internet just a few days ago, after Belo admitted that she had reconciled with Kho. With reports from Norman Bordadora, Tina G. Santos, Philippine Daily Inquirer
