BAGUIO CITY, Philippines -- Comedienne Candy Pangilinan is returning to the summer capital on June 6 to apologize personally for a gag that offended Igorots, Baguio Representative Mauricio Domogan said Friday.

Pangilinan was declared persona non grata (unwelcome) by the city council for a stand-up act she performed at a mall here where she joked, "Tao po ako, hindi Igorot (I'm human, not an Igorot).?

Domogan, a member of the Bago tribe, said the actress has asked him to accompany her to the city council.

Pangilinan was criticized by Cordillera bloggers, some of whom were overseas when news of her May 9 performance at SM City Baguio spread.

The actress apologized on her own blog, and over national television, but the city council voted to ban her from the city "to teach her a lesson."

Only Councilor Galo Weygan, a Cordilleran pastor, abstained from the vote.

Cordilleran lawyer Alex Bangsoy gathered fellow Igorot lawyers on Wednesday to discuss a civil suit against the actress.

Domogan?s office plans to educate members of the entertainment industry on what modern-day Igorot culture is all about.

Many Igorots work for the industry, but have either downplayed their ethnic roots or have not acquired enough clout to influence how Igorots are presented in films, said one of Domogan's aides.

Actor Robin Padilla, for example, employs 30 Igorot stunt actors for the television series, "Totoy Bato," although they have no speaking parts.Padilla has roots in Baguio.
