MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Medical Association is determined to investigate beauty doctor to the stars Vicki Belo and her former lover, Doctor Hayden Kho Jr., for unethical conduct for the proliferation of Kho's sex videos with several women.
The PMA?s Committee on Ethics would meet this week to plot its course of action, PMA president Doctor Rey Melchor Santos said.
The committee would likely summon Belo and Kho, both members of the PMA, to answer questions on whether they violated the group's Code of Ethics, Santos said.
Belo and Kho should heed the summonses because ?if they won't, they waive their right to be heard,? Santos said at the weekly health forum arranged by the Philippine College of Physicians at Annabel's restaurant in Timog, Quezon City, on Tuesday.
Santos said the PMA has yet to verify the names of the ?other victims? and other people who have been implicated in the sex video scandal, and check if they were in the PMA roster.
While stressing that they had not prejudged anyone, Santos said a physician found guilty of unethical conduct could be expelled from the PMA.
Expulsion from the organization, however, does not prohibit a doctor from continuing his practice, since only the Philippine Regulatory Commission has the power to suspend or revoke a medical license.
?The PMA is taking special interest because the issue of disrespect for human dignity is being brought out. Hayden Kho is just incidental to the issue,? Santos said.
?All doctors feel humiliated and disgusted by what happened. We can't allow the acts of one member to destroy the integrity of the entire medical profession. We need to make sure the public knows they can give their trust and confidence to their doctors,? he said.
?The PMA does not and will not tolerate actions violative of ethical standards,? he added.
