MANILA, Philippines? The son of actress Amalia Fuentes has posted bail in connection with a libel case filed against him in a Cebu court.
Gerard Stevens, 26, posted bail of P10,000 before Judge Ofelia Arellano-Marquez of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 216 on Wednesday afternoon.
Marquez, the Quezon City RTC executive judge, granted the posting of bail for Stevens' temporary liberty.
Stevens is the son of Fuentes, a famous actress (Amalia Muhlach Stevens in real life) whose career in film peaked from the 1950s to the ?70s.
His posting of bail came after police served a warrant for his arrest at his residence in New Manila, Quezon City, in relation to a libel case Stevens is facing in Cebu.
The Cebu Regional Trial Court Branch 23 issued an arrest warrant for Stevens based on a case filed by the supposed partner of Stevens' father Joey Stevens.
The complainant, Angelica Sierra, alleged that Stevens maligned her in his blog, calling her hurtful names that besmirched her reputation.
Stevens, his mother, and two others are also facing a robbery case before the Quezon City RTC for their alleged breaking into his father's office and getting back his mother's belongings.
Their arraignment for the case, robbery with force upon things, is set for October 19 before the sala of Judge Edgar Santos of RTC Branch 222.
The charges stemmed from a 2007 complaint filed by Rafael Anton and Editha Lopez-Bernardo of the First Mindanao Agriculture Corp, which holds office along P. Tuason Blvd. in Cubao.
Anton, a majority stockholder and Bernardo, the corporate secretary, alleged that Fuentes et al picked the lock of the FMA office in November 2007 and carted away items purportedly belonging to Anton.
The arraignment has been postponed several times pending the resolution of the petition for review Fuentes filed before the Department of Justice seeking the dismissal of the complaint.
