MANILA, Philippines? The Quezon City government is mulling cash donations to provinces in Northern Luzon that were recently battered by Typhoon ?Pepeng? (international codename:Parma).

In a statement, Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr said he has requested the 26-member city council to authorize him to extend the financial assistance before it goes on recess.

?Our Quezon City may be reeling from the devastation of tropical storm ?Ondoy? (international codename: Ketsana) but it is also fitting and proper to share the city?s fruits of economic development,? he said.

Belmonte said the recipients of the financial assistance will include but not be limited to Baguio City, Pangasinan and Cagayan Valley, all located in Northern Luzon.

In 2008, the city government also extended aid to victims of Super Typhoon Frank in Aklan, Iloilo and Capiz in the Visayas region, as well as in Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Legazpi City, and Catanduanes in Bicol.

Recently the Iloilo City government also gave P1 million in financial assistance to flood victims in Quezon City.

Belmonte added that 2,000 residents of Villa España II in Barangay Tatalon received free medical services when Chine-Filipino businessmen conducted a medical mission in the barangay last week.

Under the Sagip-Buhay medical and dental mission, the residents were extended basic health services and free medicines by 30 doctors from the Quezon City Association of Filipino-Chinese Businessmen, Inc. and the Caloocan Fil-Chinese Charity Clinic.

The QCAFCBI also donated 5,000 bags of relief goods and six boxes of over-the-counter medicines to the flood victims.

Meanwhile, 60 Quezon City policemen are to undergo flood rescue training at the La Mesa Dam lagoon to prepare them for future floods.

?The raging flood waters brought by the wrath of Ondoy taught us lessons... and we do not want to be caught unaware when similar catastrophes strikes,? Chief Supt. Elmo San Diego San Diego said.

The Quezon City government bought 10 rubber boats after Ondoy flooded several areas in Quezon City such as Barangay Bagong Silangan and Tatalon.

?With this training, our policemen will now be more prepared to respond to similar incidents brought by natural disasters and at the same time, the training will help us assess strengths and weaknesses of our disaster response preparedness,? San Diego said.
