MANILA, Philippines? The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Saturday welcomed the appointment of National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales as replacement for outgoing Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.
?I don?t think we need any major adjustment because we?ve worked with Secretary Gonzales before,? said Lieutenant Colonel Romeo Brawner, AFP spokesman.
Brawner said it was also a good thing that the incoming defense secretary was somebody from the civilian sector.
He said the AFP was already preparing for the testimonial parade for Teodoro in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City, on Monday.
Teodoro is resigning from his post to focus on his campaign for the presidency as the standard-bearer of the ruling Lakas-Kampi-CMD in next year?s national elections.
On Friday, he formally announced that he has picked TV host and movie actor Edu Manzano as his running mate.
