TAGUM CITY ? At least P3 million worth of properties were lost when a fire traced to firecrackers razed three homes in the upland town of Talaingod, Davao del Norte during the New Year revelry, police said.
The blaze occurred at 12:15 a.m. in Purok 1-B, Barangay (village) Sto. Niño, said Senior Inspector Michael Seguido, Talaingod police chief.
Seguido said that based on initial investigation, the fire started at the house of Froculo Landeza.
?Apparently, sparks from firecrackers set off to celebrate the New Year catapulted to the Landeza house, triggering the blaze,? Seguido said.
He said the fire quickly spread to and gutted the residences of Concepcion Inocando and Virgilio Tagnipez.
Fire volunteers of Talaingod as well as fire trucks from neighboring municipalities like Kapalong, Asuncion and Tagum City responded and were able to put out the fire after two hours, Seguido said.
He said no one was hurt during the incident.
Meanwhile, Davao del Norte registered a drop in New Year revelry-related injuries this year, according to police and health officials.
The province has only three injuries related to firecrackers, down from six last year.
A nine-year old boy from Limbaan, New Corella town was admitted at the Davao Regional Hospital due to injuries from a ?piccolo.?
The two other victims suffered only minor injuries that needed no hospitalization, officials said.
