MANILA, Philippines ? Lakas-Kampi-CMD vice-presidential candidate Edu Manzano has asked the Commission on Elections to allow him and other showbiz candidates and endorsers to resume their work during the campaign season.
Manzano?s lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, submitted a letter to poll chairman Jose Melo on Friday requesting the Comelec to reconsider its resolution requiring ?mass media columnist, announcer, or personality to take a leave of absence? if he has endorsed or was working for a candidate.
Manzano said the provision, under Resolution 8758, deprived actors of their livelihood. It also breaches their freedom of expression, the actor and host said. ?Pending the resolution of this request, it is also respectfully requested that the implementation of Section of 36 of Comelec Resolution No. 8758 dated Feb. 4, 2010 be temporarily suspended,? he said.
