MANILA, Philippines?Cartoon Network Enterprises has partnered with Viva Video in the animation firm?s expansion into the home video market.
At least 21 titles have already been line-up for release in 2010, including Powerpuff Girls and Powerpuff Gils Z series, in the coming years, said Viva Video's general manager Leslie de Guzman.
The partnership covers the local release of all CN's existing programs and other titles yet to be released, including upcoming shows like Ben 10 Alien Force (a sequel to the popular Ben 10 series set five years after the original story) and Generator Rex (about a 15-year-old super hero who fights aliens using his unique ability to, literally, grow weapons and armor from his body).
Dulce Lim-Chen, vice president of the Asia Pacific CN Enterprises, said CN Enterprises works closely with its distribution partners in choosing the titles for release.
?We work with our partner to see what the most viable range to launch at any given time, because you know, our partners invest on the production, marketing and distribution,? Lim-Chen said.
Lim-Chen also said the entertainment network is not worried the proliferation of pirated videos in the country.
?We take piracy very seriously but we are very confident our products will work,? said Dulce Lim-Chen, vice president of the Asia Pacific CN Enterprises.
?Even if there are pirated DVDs in the market, or even if the market is known for having a stronger trend for piracy, again it goes back to content with good value pricing, you could make it work,? Lim-Chen said when asked if Cartoon Network is worried about the proliferation pirated videos in the country.
She cited the case of Thailand, where piracy is also rampant but the network home video products remain competitive. It is the second strongest market for DVDs in the Asia Pacific region.
?In Thailand, they are renewing their contract with us with a very high revenue target because contents are just selling like crazy,? Lim-Chen said.
China, where video piracy is also widespread, is one of the first countries to forge a deal with CN Enterprises for local video distribution of Cartoon Network videos, set to be released on April.
?But release is taking longer because of all (the government requirements needed),? she said. ?But they were one of the first to sign up with a very bullish and optimistic forecast.?
?They are very confident that they can work along side with the pirated version,? she added.
Lim-Chen said CN Enterprises has a dedicated corporate team from New York that handles the company's intellectual property issues.
?We retain legal counsels in every market, and we take action. We work with the different industry partners to make sure that we address this seriously and take quick action, because we have to protect our intellectual property and our partners,? Lim-Chen said.
De Guzman, meanwhile, expressed gratitude for being chosen as CN's video partner.
?Viva video is really very honored and grateful that you have chosen us to be your video partner in providing quality home video entertainment for kids in our country,? de Guzman said.
?This new partnership with Cartoon Network provides Viva Video strong VCD and DVD content to fill the imagination of Pinoy kids,? he added.
?Cartoon Network provides the best in kid's entertainment and with Viva Video's unparalleled expertise in the industry, our partnership will mean that families can now own their own library of Cartoon Network favorites,? Lim-Chen said.
