MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE 3) The death of actor Cesar Montano?s son, Christian Angelo Manhilot, who was found early Friday with a gunshot wound to the head in his kitchen, could have been a suicide, police said.
?The initial report from the investigators said it was apparently a suicide,'' said Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, head of the Quezon City Police District homicide unit.
Manhilot, 23, was found by a household help slumped on a chair in the kitchen of his house on Yakal Street, Tivoli Royale Subdivision in Barangay Batasan Hills at around 6 a.m.
He had a gunshot wound on the head.
Found near the body were a .45-caliber pistol, which police believed to be the gun used in the shooting, a cellular phone, and a landline phone.
In a separate interview with INQUIRER.net, Superintendent Crisostomo Mendoza, Batasan police station commander, said Manhilot arrived home past 2 a.m., apparently drunk.
Citing statements from a certain Alicia Pareno, Mendoza said after letting Manhilot inside their home, the house helpers went to sleep. An hour after, they heard a gun shot and upon checking, discovered Manhilot?s body in a sitting position on the kitchen floor.
Mendoza said Manhilot had a gunshot wound to his left temple.
Manhilot was rushed to the Malvar General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said Montano was in Bohol when the shooting happened.
Mendoza said the lawyer of Montano had signed a waiver not to let police investigate further into Manhilot?s death as the family had accepted that it was a suicide.
Montano is running for governor in the island province and was preparing for the campaign, which started Friday for local candidates running on May 10, when he was informed of the incident.
