NAGA CITY?Dethroned Bicol beauty queen Maria Venus Raj has found another ally.
A group said Monday that the Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) should not ?be giving false hope? to Raj.
Bayan Muna said it was apprehensive over the decision of the BPCI?s decision to reinstate Raj as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe if she could acquire a Philippine passport.
Raj was dethroned due to supposed inconsistencies contained in her birth records and her personal account of her birth.
?It is good to hear that she is given the opportunity to correct the entries in her birth certificate. But the legal obstacles that the BPCI has been raising against Venus was merely transferred to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to decide,? said lawyer Joven Laura, Bayan Muna party-list nominee, in a statement sent to the Inquirer.
Laura said the BPCI was simply passing the issue to the DFA ?without actually doing anything to remove the obstacles in order for Venus to regain her title.?
?If Venus applies for a Philippine passport, the DFA would definitely tackle the issue of Venus? citizenship according to the entries found in her birth certificate?the same issue which the BPCI should have now resolved. Let?s not give false hope to Venus, please,? he said.
