NEW YORK ? Talks have broken down for movie moguls Bob and Harvey Weinstein to buy back Miramax Films from The Walt Disney Company, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
Citing people familiar with the matter, the newspaper said the failure of negotiations for the Weinsteins to buy back the studio they founded could pave the way for another bid for Miramax by billionaire brothers Tom and Alec Gores.
Miramax was founded by Bob and Harvey Weinstein in 1979 and named for their parents, Max and Miriam Weinstein. Miramax was sold to Disney in 1993 and the Weinstein brothers left the company in 2005 to start their own movie studio.
Miramax hits include such films as "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction."
The Journal said that besides the Gores, a consortium of investors that includes film financier David Bergstein could also be interested in Miramax.
