RHINEBECK, New York, United States?Chelsea Clinton married her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky Saturday evening, the Clinton family said, ending weeks of secretive build-up about the former first daughter's wedding.

"Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends," ex-president Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a statement.

"We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family."

The announcement concludes the intense speculation and anticipation about the elaborate nuptials, which were planned in utmost secrecy and held on a luxurious?and heavily secured?estate outside the town of Rhinebeck, in rural New York state.

The intrigue had reached fever pitch on Saturday, with celebrity-watchers roaming the small town for sightings of the affair's roughly 500 guests, who were reportedly to include Hollywood mogul Steven Spielberg, top designer Vera Wang, and former secretary of state Madeleine Albright.

"On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day," the Clintons said.
