MANILA, Philippines--It's confirmed. Singer-actress Jennylyn Mercado and boyfriend Patrick Garcia are infanticipating.
The news was confirmed by both GMA Artist Center, Mercado's management company, and Arnold Vegafria, Garcia's manager.
Vegafria said that Mercado is six weeks pregnant. He asserted that Garcia "will not turn his back on his responsibilities to both Jennylyn and their child. Vegafria denied, however, that the young couple were supposed to get married on Thursday.
"They're too young," he said, adding that Garcia will continue with his work on the forthcoming GMA-7 drama, "Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita," which topbills Yasmien Kurdi and JC de Vera.
Mercado and Garcia's team-up in the planned soap, "Maging Akin Ka Lamang," however, was shelved, Vegafria added. "The network has decided to shelve the Jennylyn-Patrick love team for the time being," he said.
Ida Henares, head of GMA Artist Center, expressed support for Mercado. She said via SMS: "We are standing by her. But with her health in mind, we have decided to give her a break from work."
"When she's ready and in the right condition to work, we are willing to support her and give her another show," Henares added.
According to Henares, GMA-7 was told that the couple had expressed plans to get married but not right away.
Henares' office also related that Mercado will be replaced by Nadine Samonte, another GMA-7 talent and alumna of the "Starstruck" reality-based talent search, in "Maging Akin Ka Lamang."
According to their respective managers, Mercado is 20 years old, while Garcia is 26. Mercado was the grand winner of the first season of "Starstruck," GMA-7's reality based talent search along with former boyfriend and screen partner Mark Herras.
Mercado currently appears on the primetime soap "La Vendetta," which is about to conclude its run.
