All good seats for Maroon 5 gig sold out

MANILA, Philippines - At press time, all the good seats for the Maroon 5 concert on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum have sold out—or at least are no longer available at Ticketnet. A call to the computerized ticketing network based at the Araneta Coliseum confirmed that only the following are available: VIP (P10,500); SRO Upper Box A and B (P3,938 and P2,625); and General Admission (P1,575).

There’s talk on the Net that tickets to the good seats—Patron, Lower Box—were “pulled out” of the outlets and bought in bulk by “a big client.” Who is this “big client” and where are those tickets going?

What makes Maroon 5 a much sought-after act? “Songs About Jane,” its debut album, contained material directly inspired by vocalist Adam Levine’s stormy relationship with a girlfriend named Jane. The album yielded several hits, notably “This Love” and “She Will Be Loved.”

Released in 2002, the album enjoyed prolonged attention due to the band’s constant touring—in some instances, as front act for the Rolling Stones.

Songs performed while on tour were recorded and released as “Live—Friday the 13th,” which became the basis for the band’s Grammy for Best New Artist in 2005.

A new album, “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long,” was released last year and reportedly took much of its dance grooves from Prince, Michael Jackson and Talking Heads. But the spare, funk rhythms heard on several tracks like “If I Never See Your Face Again,” “Makes Me Wonder,” among others, remind us more of the Fine Young Cannibals, while the mid-tempo numbers such as “I Won’t Go Home Without You” has vocals that recall Sting.

The recording, much like its predecessor, has been described as a “break-up album,” or mostly about unsuccessful love affairs, but it’s something that doesn’t make you feel sad—since the music has a very uplifting quality.

On concert night, Levine’s charismatic presence is bound to be the focus of the women in the audience.
