Brian blogspot: the plot thickens

MANILA, Philippines - It’s officially the talk of the town.
From the air-conditioned executive offices of a TV network to the hothouse set of an indie movie, the chismis du jour is Australian Brian Gorrell’s controversial blogspot, a ranting spree against his Filipino ex-lover and the Pinoy’s “coke-snorting,” “drug-addled” and “social-climbing” friends, one of whom is a television show host.
It was the scalding subject even during the finale taping of “Marimar” on Monday—so hot, it threatened to upstage the grand wedding of Bella Aldama and Sergio Santibañez, lead characters of the GMA 7 soap opera.
Show biz denizens had been hooked just as much as the original devoted Netizens, and the fever peaked after the online telenovela was abruptly shut down on Wednesday night.
Expectedly, the rumor mill went berserk.
Less than 24 hours later, Gorrell re-opened the site, at first only to deny gossip that he had been paid US$70,000, the amount he said his estranged boyfriend owed him.
“It’s very simple. I have not been paid a single peso. The rumors are false. Sad and false,” he wrote on Thursday.
The next day, a new missive greeted hopeful Netizens: “Three thousand e-mails. That’s how many I have received. 3,412. People all over the world are demanding that I re-open this blog. So I will,” Gorrell said.
Move over, Greta
Gorrell’s engrossing writing style was described as “fashionably in” by “Manay Po 2” screenwriter and entertainment columnist Dinno Erece.
“It reminded me of Dominick Dunne’s books—‘The Two Mrs. Grenvilles,’ ‘People Like Us’ and ‘A Season in Purgatory,’” Erece told Rushes.
It made Gretchen Barretto’s latest scandal irrelevant, he noted.
Who knew it would take a gay Aussie to upstage La Greta?
Some bloggers had previously put in hilarious quips in the rampaging blog’s Comments section, which Gorrell decided to shut down permanently on Friday.
One blog fan earlier suggested that “Umagang Kay Ganda” host and columnist Ogie Diaz should be cast as Gorrell’s ex-boyfriend in the blog’s movie version. If ever.
Diaz’s quick reply when asked to comment: “Bongga!” That’s “fabulous,” in gay lingo.
“That would be my 33rd film,” Diaz said on Friday afternoon. “We were talking about the blog in the dressing room this morning. [UKG] Co-host Edu Manzano told me about the suggested movie version. But who would dare invest in that production?”
Not so taken with the hullabaloo is another show biz insider. “Connect the dots,” the skeptic sniffed. “It could be just a gimmick to promote the club where those society peeps hang out. Remember the noisy separation of a show biz couple recently? It was for a new soap. And one comedian’s cry for justice for her son? For a new fantaserye.”
Mmm. We did hear of an “anti-Blog” party there the other night. One of Brian’s Netizen supporters described the place in his blog as a “drug den,” and one of the high-profile owners as a “drug dealer.” The plot thickens. It could slay the best screenwriters yet.
Cokehead couple
A Gay Celeb who’s a major character in the above-mentioned online drama, is now the BFF of a Young Singer-Actress.
Unbeknownst to YSA, her former ka-love team was a bedmate and drug cohort of GC’s!
A source claims that KL is now hopelessly hooked on coke. Not the soda.
No Gabby for Jolens
GMA Films head Annette Gozon-Abrogar has announced that US-based actor Gabby Concepcion is no longer in the cast of the “cruise movie” top-billed by Jolina Magdangal.
Dennis Trillo has been cast instead as the male lead in the comedy flick, “I.T.A.L.Y. (I Trust And Love You),” which also stars Rufa Mae Quinto and Eugene Domingo, Mark Herras and Rhian Ramos.
Abrogar told Rushes: “GMA Films has another project in mind for Gabby’s comeback. His contract with the company states that Gabby’s movie comeback is with us. We trust that he will fulfill his commitment.” An insider added that Gabby has received a down payment from the Kapuso movie arm.
