MANILA, Philippines—Bells keep ringing for Dingdong Dantes as his career zooms higher.
He has a new TV series, “Dyesebel,” where he plays the character Fredo, a man whose priority is money and not love.
It’s the other way around with Dong. “Love mixed with hard work and passion can be a perfect formula. I use love as an inspiration to work,” he said. “So I believe love must come first. Even at least, love for self.”
Isn’t he wary that his team-up with Marian Rivera will limit his growth as a solo actor? “I’m overjoyed that we were given another chance to work as a pair. Although I know someday we will be taking separate paths. It is best to make use of this chance to grow as a pair and as individuals as well.”
Any which way, the clamor for Dingdong just keeps growing.
Not even friends
Jennylyn Mercado is pregnant not just with Patrick Garcia’s baby but also with stressful thoughts. “Naospital ako sa sobrang sakit ng mga text sa akin ni Pat,” said Jen. “Sana ‘wag niya akong ginaganun kasi alam naman niya na delicate ang condition ko.”
Could Patrick just be jealous of her rumored new BF, deejay Andrei Felix? “Andrei’s just a friend. Sana ‘wag naman lagyan ng malisya ng mga tao kung may mga friends akong concerned lang sa akin,” she said. “Si Patrick di na kami lovers, di pa kami friends.”
Her OB-gyne told her she has a baby boy. Will she name him Patrick Jr.? “Ay! Ayoko nun (laughs). Gusto ko ng unique na name.” Enough said, too much felt.
Guess who
This TV host owes a lot of celebrities big bucks because of his failed business venture which they gamely invested in out of pakikisama. As a comedienne revealed, “I gave him 200Klast year pa but till now wala pa ring return of investment. Marami pang ibang artista na di pa niya nababayaran. Out of hiya or awa sa kaniya kaya di kami nagsasalita. Pero sana ma-solve niya ang problema kasi hard-earned money ko yon.” Hopefully, the TV host is not too hard-up to do so.
Kids’ idol
Aga Muhlach may be the object of many women’s fantasies but he also happens to be an idol of kids who look up to him as Doc Aga in “That’s My Doc” (now on a new time slot, 6 p.m. every Saturday on ABS-CBN).
What was Aga like when he was a kid? “He loved to chew on the edges of his blanket like a rat,” recalled his equally gorgeous dad Tito Cheng. “That’s how we coined his nickname Aga kasi para siyang daga (laughs).”
No wonder Ags is unbeatable in the show biz rat race to sustain fame.
Not the best
Regine Velasquez’s birthday TV special “Best of Me” was quite a delight, although it could have been better if she sang more of her signature songs. She veered away from her usual repertoire for a change.
It was an experiment worth doing but her choice of songs didn’t exactly represent the best of her. So the show’s title somewhat turned into a misnomer.
The special was shot in her home but only the garden/pool area was shown. It’s Regine’s right to keep the rest of her inner sanctum private. That defeats the purpose of shooting at her place, though.
For the show’s finale, she dived into her pool. My gay friend exclaimed, “Ay! Plugging din ba yan ng “Dyesebel”?” Whoa! A swimming (song) bird!
