RUSHES
One thing we ask of ‘Wowowee’

By Inquirer.net Entertainment Staff, the Inquirer Entertainment Staff

MANILA, Philippines—Fans of “Wowowee” in Honolulu are demanding an explanation for the alleged failure of some cast members to turn up at what they claim as a $100/head pre-booked private party.

Rushes has a smaller, but just as urgent, demand: Subtitles for the spiels of co-emcees Mariel Rodriguez and, occasionally, Valerie Concepcion. Those who catch and comprehend any one full sentence of what these two gals say on any given day, show of hands, please.

Uma takes on Lancome

NEW YORK—Uma Thurman responded to French cosmetics giant Lancome’s lawsuit against her with one of her own Friday, taking to federal court their contract dispute over the use of her name and face in an advertising campaign.

In her $15 million lawsuit, Thurman said that Lancome Parfums et Beaute & Cie boosted its worldwide sales and enhanced its “prestige, stature and bargaining power” by helping retailers use her name and likeness in advertising and promotions after her contract expired. AP

Diploma for Vanessa

SYRACUSE, New York—Vanessa Williams has received her bachelor of fine arts degree from Syracuse University, nearly 25 years after she dropped out to become the first black Miss America.

The 45-year-old actress-singer, who stars in ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” also delivered the convocation address Saturday to graduates of Syracuse’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Williams attended Syracuse’s drama department as a musical theater major from 1981-1983. She earned the remaining credits for her degree through industry experience and performances on stage and screen. AP

Sex and the City’s 5th lady

NEW YORK—Forget the Empire State Building.

Some New York tourists are eager to see the city’s other landmarks made famous by “Sex and the City”: Carrie’s house, Charlotte’s gallery and that restaurant where Samantha threw a martini in a boyfriend’s face.

With the movie follow-up to the hit TV show set to premiere later this month, a number of loyal viewers are planning trips so they can see “Sex and the City” … in the city.

“The producers have said that New York City is the fifth lady of the show,” says Lisa Blythe Perlman, a guide for the “Sex and the City Hotspots” tour. “Eighty percent of the show was filmed on location.” AP

Top of the Talk Shows

For those who missed last weekend’s gabfests on TV. (And why were are moved, if we are moved.)

A woman scorned?

Jericho Rosales, on rumors of a simultaneous romance with two foreign co-stars that led to his separation from Heart Evangelista:

“Not true. Here is a man loving a girl very much and truly. How can I, in my life, at this stage, pagsasabayin ko ang dalawang babae? Briana Evigan and Carmen Hsu at the same time and I’m gonna look like this? Miserable?” (Uh, it’s not impossible, actually, but …)

Jericho’s message to Heart:

“I love you. We were two people in love and we went through problems, but the love doesn’t stop there. So if there’s love, it’s worth fighting for … If there’s a lesson that I’ve learned in this relationship, it’s the value of each and everyone in my life. And the value of my heart and how much I’m capable of loving.” (Awww.)

Heart, on her three-year relationship with Jericho:

“Minahal ko talaga siya. Ginive-up ko ang lahat para sa kanya. Lahat-lahat. Pamilya. Career. Matigas ang ulo ko. Pero ngayon below the belt na … pakiramdam ko, ako nga ’yung niloko tapos ako pa ’yung masama. Hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit pinapalabas niya na siya ’yung miserable. Hindi ko maintindihan ’yun … Siya pa [raw] yung kawawa.” (Ang sakit nga, ha?)

Heart’s message to Jericho:

“Alam mo naman kung ano ang nangyari. Ano ang mga pinaglaban ko para sa iyo? I think it’s time na talagang simula ngayon, na malinaw na talaga, na tapos na. Ayoko nang pag-usapan pa. Gusto ko nang mag-move on. Gusto ko nang new chapter sa buhay ko. I hope you don’t do this to anybody else. I hope na you learned your lesson. Whether you admit it or not.” (Okay. Finished na, ha?)

Just waiting

Regine Velasquez, on getting married to boyfriend Ogie Alcasid:

“We’re just waiting for something. Hopefully, kapag naayos na ang lahat, pwede na.” (Something … awesome?)

No, please

Robin Padilla, on being paired with KC Concepcion:

“Tatay siguro ako ni KC. Huwag ipa-partner. Oo kasi [parang] anak ko na yun eh. Nung panahon na namamayani ang pag-ibig namin ni ma’am (Sharon Cuneta), itinuring kong anak si KC. Alangan yun. Hindi ako makaka-acting. Baka, anak? Baka ganoon ang mangyari. Pwede akong lumabas na tatay niya. Isang malaking karangalan.” (Stepfather, kaya?)

Pledge of love

Sheree’s pledge to boyfriend Gian Magdangal after giving birth to their son:

“After kong manganak, sobrang talagang ‘Gian, hindi kita iiwanan, hindi kita lolokohin!’” (Goodbye, post-partum depression.)
