MANILA, Philippines?Auraeus Solito?s ?Pisay,? a movie about eight Philippine Science High School students coming of age in the 1980s, won the highest number of honors in this year?s Golden Screen Awards (GSA), the Entertainment Press Society or Enpress announced on Monday.
?Pisay,? which debuted in the 2007 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, will receive eight trophies at the awarding ceremonies at Zirkoh Greenhills, San Juan on June 24, 8 p.m.
The winners were chosen by an eight-member jury led by Enpress president Ricky Calderon and other members of the movie press.
?Pisay? bagged the Best Motion Picture (Drama) award, Best Director (Solito), Best Original Screenplay (Henry Graheda) and Best Supporting Actress (Drama, Musical or Comedy) for Eugene Domingo.
It also received honors for Best Original Song (?Ang Puso Kong Musmos?) written by Carina Evangelista, Buddy Zabala and Ernest Mangulabnan; Best Editing (Mikael Angelo Pastrano and Kanakan Balintagos); Best Production Design (Martin Masadao, Regie Regalado, Dante Garcia and Endi Balbueno); and Best Musical Score (Vincent de Jesus and Jobin Ballesteros).
Other winners
Solito told Inquirer Entertainment by phone on Monday that he?s very happy the film he directed and produced won in several categories.
Cherry Pie Picache was named Best Actress (Drama) for her role as a surrogate mother in Dante Mendoza?s ?Foster Child.?
John Lloyd Cruz bagged the Best Actor (Drama) award for Cathy Garcia-Molina?s ?One More Chance,? a love story about moving on after a breakup.
Sen. Jinggoy Estrada, playing a returning overseas worker in Jose Javier Reyes? ?Katas ng Saudi,? won Best Actor in a comedy role. ?Katas? was also chosen as Best Comedy Film.
Ricky Davao was named Best Supporting Actor trophy for his role as a man abandoned by his wife in the movie ?Endo.?
Newcomers Rhian Ramos (Topel Lee?s ?Ouija?) and Joem Bascon (Adolf Alix Jr.?s ?Batanes?) won Breakthrough Performance awards by an Actress and Actor, respectively.
Other winners are Larry Manda (Best Cinematography for ?Maling Akala?), Ditoy Aguila (Best Sound for ?Kadin?), and August Espino (Best Visual Effects for ?Still Life?).
Christopher de Leon will receive the Gawad Lino Brocka Lifetime Achievement Award. It was Brocka who launched De Leon?s acting debut in ?Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang.?
A posthumous award will be conferred to Rudy Fernandez, who succumbed to periampullary cancer on June 7.
Rufa Mae Quinto and John Lapus will host the awards show.
