Dollywood
Manager defends Angel Locsin’s topless billboard pose

MANILA, Philippines—I will never forget Marvin Agustin’s birthday surprise to me many smiles ago. Since he missed my party, he popped up at the condo unit of my amiga Alana where I was staying for the weekend. He brought Rico Yan along.

When I was hospitalized recently, Marvs sent me flowers. Every time I make lambing for a treat in his yummy restos (Sumo Sam in Shang, 10 Titas in Gateway and Oyster Boy in Cubao), he grants my requests instantly.

Kindness is an everyday thing for him. To paraphrase the title of his new soap, madalas at hindi lang minsan ang kabaitan ni Marvin.

In “Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan,” he portrays a man torn between two women. “In real life, I’d always choose the one I love than the one who loves me,” says Marvs. “I live life to the fullest. I don’t wanna spend it with someone I don’t love 100 percent.”

Could her leading lady Diana Zubiri be that one for him? “She’s a beautiful woman inside out. It’s not impossible.”

His twin sons make everything possible for him to achieve. “They are my strength,” he says. “I try not to miss any moment with them especially now, in their formative years. They teach me how good it feels just to love.”

With Marvin’s super-sized heart, love in all its forms comes naturally.

‘No malice’

Angel Locsin’s manager Becky Aguila sees nothing wrong with Gel’s topless billboard shot for Folded & Hung. “The fashion calls for it,” Becky explains. “No malice in the pose. It was done with class. It’s within the moral parameters of Angel being a wholesome endorser.”

After “Lobo” wraps up, Angel will fly to Bangkok for a commercial shoot. Then she will have rehab therapy for a mild case of slipped disc and start shooting her movie with Piolo Pascual in Bukidnon and Australia. The endless intrigues pitting Angel against Marian Rivera like in FHM’s sexiest poll is a non-issue, really. Angel’s too blessed to be stressed (by controversies).

Ex-lovers’ reunion

Ex-lovers Dingdong Avanzado and Rachel Alejandro bumped into each other at Ruffa Gutierrez’s birthday party. Did he see his controversial ex Rufa Mae Quinto who was also at the fete? “Nope, di kami nag-abot ni Pchi. Guess it’s not the right time,” says Dingdong. Why can’t they be friends the way he and Rachel are? “Rachel didn’t say anything to hamper the friendship. We are planning a reunion. It’s fine with Jessa as long as kasama siya (laughs).” Could have Pchi misread his signals before? “I don’t think there was any mixed signals,” he insists. “Pchi knows very well why our relationship couldn’t go any further. Out of respect for her, I didn’t go into details about the matter.”

Some things are better left unsaid and some questions are best left unanswered.

First anniversary

Paulene Luna is in full bloom. Her love life is rosy and she’s been tapped as the new endorser of Dr. Joel Mendez’s Weigh Less Center, Body & Face clinics. “My BF Sherwin (Gatchalian) makes me glow. Mendez helps me maintain it,” she says.

They recently celebrated their first anniversary as lovers. “We had a romantic dinner at Antonio’s in Tagaytay.”

Does she see herself married to Sherwin anytime soon? “It’s too early. We just focus on making each other happy.” Paulene’s living la vida Luna!

Long distance romance

Iza Calzado and her BF Jerry Garcia (who’s based in the US) were spotted having a blast at Embassy. They surely have a lot of reasons to celebrate. Long- distance romance is never easy. I remember Iza telling me once, “We just might end up fighting kung nandito kami pareho and we don’t have enough time for each other. Since magkalayo kami, we make up for it by calling frequently. In an odd way, the distance works to our advantage since we’re both busy with our careers.” Career-in ang pag-care!

Twice lucky

I bumped into stunning couple John Estrada and Priscilla Meirelles at Shangri-La Mall on a stormy Sunday. “She taught me that love is lovelier the next time around,” beams John. They kept each other warm and enjoyed the “bed weather” together.

New branch

Karylle is excited that the second branch of Centerstage Family KTV is now open in Jupiter Place Makati (895-0005). It’s her venture with BF Dingdong Dantes and friends (the original joint is in Timog Circle). Could it signal another venture for Dong and K called marriage?

Cool artist

New artist Mary Emme sounds as good as she looks. Her music is a fusion of pop rock, reggae, country rock and R&B. Her debut album “Freak,” cool yet electrifying, has a music video to hit music channels soon. Mary is a self-proclaimed “free download music artist.” Log on to www.maryemme.com. Make way for Emme Fatale!

Celebrity night

Members (and non-members) of the National Press Club are invited to join the revelry on Celebrity Night every Friday at the Headline Restaurant (NPC Bldg., Intramuros). Guests include Pilita Corrales, Carmen Patena and Dulce. United NPC stands, and still united they party!

PERSONAL: Kudos to my brilliant friend Jacque Ruby, new president of Makisig Network (Channel 76 on Sky Cable). With Jacques at the helm, no doubt it will soon be a station to reckon with.
