Secrecy surrounds rumored reunion

MANILA, PhilippinesWho cares about an Eraserheads reunion concert?

From the rumors that started to circulate among blog sites and Internet chat groups early last week, the number of fans who have posted comments expressing their interest couldnt have reached the hundreds.

But print media broke the story on Sunday and a TV newscast confirmed the rumors by quoting some of the band members. Suddenly, everybody seems to be talking about it.

Nothing official

There is no official announcement yet, although one Villy Ray Villacorta posted the following message on the Eraserheads mailing list, which was in turn reported by the website PhilMusic.com:

Yes its true. Its been in the works for several months Marlboro is sponsoring this concert and paid the members a staggering P10 million each to do a 45-minute setAug. 30, 2008at the CCP open grounds Tickets are freeyou can download it early August. Website to be announced One brand. One bandOne night only

A band member was mentioned to have visited FM radio station Jam 88.3 in Ortigas and talked about the concert.

An update from PhilMusics Jim Ayson noted that the P10 million talent fee for each Ehead appears to be bloated. Quoting somebody in the know, Ayson said, The figure is more in the neighborhood of P2 million each.

Not for minors

That said, the next question is, where to get those free tickets? Again, theres no official word on this, although PhilMusic says the link could be the website https://marlboro.ph (why all the secrecy?) which asks visitors to submit valid IDs to complete the registration form. Why the need for IDs? To prove that ones not a minor, because the website is for smokers 18 years and older

Does that mean that, on concert night (assuming that this is indeed a Marlboro-sponsored event), only smokers will be watching? Wouldnt that pose a problem for non-smokers and people with respiratory problems, including Eheads drummer Raimund Marasigan (now front man of Sandwich), whos said to be asthmatic? In fact, lead guitarist Marcus Adoro (now a solo artist with a well-received debut CD, Surfernando) is the only smoking Ehead, as far as we know.
