MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE 2) Another Filipino film scored a major victory in the international festival circuit.
Only weeks after Jim Libiran’s “Tribu” won the Youth Jury Prize in the recently concluded Paris Cinema International Film Festival, Jerrold Tarog and Ruel Antipuesto’s “Confessional” bagged the Best Film plum in the First Features section of the 10th Osian’s Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema Saturday in New Delhi, India.
This is the same festival Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Kubrador” won the International Critic’s Award, Best Asian Film and Best Actress for Gina Pareño in 2006.
The category covers newcomers in the festival with their first feature film in contention.
The film about a small time filmmaker who captures confessions of an erring politician with his rolling camera while documenting the Sinulog festival in Cebu bested entries from other Asian countries, including notable entries from India.
Tarog and Antipuesto received $5,000 and an additional Osian’s Originating Film Development fund worth $20,000 that will bankroll their next feature film.
“Confessional” won Best Film and Best Director in the Cinema One Digital Film festival last year.
