Three men and a Mega

MANILA, Philippines - Now, the question: Would all three guys turn up again, should they decide to mount a repeat?

Sharon Cuneta, more famously known as Mega, may be the only woman who can gather leading men Richard Gomez, Aga Muhlach and Robin Padilla under one roof?make that the Big Dome of Araneta Coliseum where ?Megathirty? was held Friday night.

(ABS-CBN will air the concert on Sept. 28, a week after the documentary, ?Tatlong Mega Dekada,? on Sept. 21.)

Lest we forget, another former screen partner, Rowell Santiago, directed the concert.

One need not be a Sharonian to know that Mega?s love stories with the three Rs (Rowell, Richard and Robin) weren?t just for reel ? but were for real.

Now, that?s star power.

In a medley of fans? most requested songs, Robin and Richard surprised the audience by going up the stage and singing with Mega.

Her husband, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, was apparently cool about it, and even joined in the revelry, notably in the Aga-bashing segment.

Sen. Kiko need not sweat it. In her spiels, Sharon described her husband as ?my peace and my passion ? my forever.?

Of course, throughout the three-hour concert, former husband Gabby Concepcion was the elephant in the room, or the 300-pound gorilla that no one dared talk about onstage.

No one, that is, except Mega, who acknowledged that ?union? as a crucial part of her career history.

That relationship, she insisted, left her with a ?beautiful gift??eldest daughter KC, who stood in for dad by singing ?Dear Heart? in three languages?Filipino, English and French.

(As any card-carrying Sharonian is aware, Mega?s debut movie ?Dear Heart? co-starred Gabby.)

In a surprise twist, the ?Dear Heart? duet was capped with ?Come What May??a song that Sharon and Gabby recorded in their teens. Mega was in tears by the end of this number.

Asked earlier about the possibility of a Gabby surprise appearance in the concert, she told the press: ?That would make all of Araneta crazy, but that would make me crazier.?

Apart from her leading men, Sharon paid tribute to the important industry people who helped make her three decades a reality.

Contemporaries Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera cleared their skeds to guest in the show. ?Martin just arrived from abroad,? Mega noted.

Noticing that Viva big boss Vic del Rosario and hosting mentor German Moreno weren?t seated in front row, Sharon asked the staff to set up chairs for them beside Sen. Kiko.

Impromptu duets

Hearing that hitmakers Rey Valera and Willy Cruz were in the audience, she asked them to join her?one, and then the other?for impromptu duets of the songs that they made for her??Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko? by Rey, and ?Sana?y Wala Nang Wakas? by Willy.

Thus, Mega made it clear that the past three decades wouldn?t have been possible without a little help from her friends.
