Dollywood
Not the best of Dolphy and Vic

MANILA, Philippines--“Dobol Trobol” is not exactly the best work of Dolphy and Vic Sotto but their combined charisma is the film’s redeeming factor. Fritz Infante stole the show with his sassy portrayal of a sosi chef.

The scene of Pidol and Bossing with their ladyloves Zsa Zsa Padilla and Pia Guanio was quite engaging. They should have been their leading ladies so they could crack personal jokes and wacky ad-libs.

It would have been more heartwarming if the Comedy King and Box-office King did something like “Bucket List.” Their much-awaited team-up deserves more than just sitcom stuff.

Big fuss

Valerie Concepcion wonders why Jenny Miller is making a big fuss about an innocent remark she made at the Belo ball. “Na-misinterpret niya lang ako when I said na the seat beside me is reserved for Angel Locsin,” Val explained. “Na-offend daw si Jen na di ko siya pinaupo. So nag-sorry ako kahit wala naman akong kasalanan. Nagulat ako na biglang may issue na siya against me kahit I meant no harm.”

Val will just “Slendance” (her video on how to lose weight) her stress away.

Heroes

The Olympics has created new idols. In this game called life, we all have our own heroes. Even celebs who are used to being worshipped have people they look up to. Here’s to our mentors who protect us from our tormentors!

DIETHER OCAMPO: “The less fortunate kids are my li’l champs. They remind me to keep my feet on the ground and that dreams are made to come true.”

MARIEL RODRIGUEZ: “Tito Boy Abunda is my hero. Whenever I’m in doubt, I call him up. By the end of our talk, all my doubts are gone and all my questions are answered.”

JED MADELA: “The late Bella Tan was like a second mom to me. She went out of her way and fought really hard to put me where I am now. She saw past the superficial requirements of show biz and believed in me as a person.”

DIANA ZUBIRI: “Jojo Gabinete is my angel who gives me strength and hope. I’m still very much around in show biz because of him.”

MARVIN AGUSTIN: “Wilma Galvante and Reggie Magno are my lifesavers. They accept and love me like their own son/homegrown talent. I can’t thank them enough for changing my life. I lost hope once but they gave me strength to dream more.”

TONI ROSE GAYDA: “Aside from my mom and my kids, nobody stood up for me. I fought my own battles. Spiritually, Jesus is my hero. He forgave my sins and He died to save me.”

YASMIEN KURDI: “Kuya Ringgo Besabe. He’s my hero because he saved my mom’s life when she needed a blood type na mahirap hanapin! Thank God bigla siyang dumating!”

Fresh young band

Make way for Dance Squad Singers (DSS). Justin Timberlake wannabes Arvin, Zyrus, CJ, JR, JB and twins Bobby and Robert have released their second album DSS (under Zone 7, a sub label of Candid Records Phils). It’s funkier and lyrically mature than their debut album.

It contains their version of Menudo’s “If You’re Not Here,” “Sana,” “Are You Kidding Me,” “Totoo” and “15 Minutes” and other captivating tunes. This fresh young band’s got the stuff that teenyboppers’ dreams are made of.

Family game

Join Coca-Cola’s daily one-million-peso edition of the P50 million Family Panalo game in “Wowowee.” Exchange two bottle caps for a card and type “Coke,” space and the code inside the card and send to 2653. One hundred thousand in cash, Honda Jazz and Avida house and lot are at stake. Drink up to keep your chances up. For the thirsty and money-hungry.
