Dollywood

MANILA, Philippines—Dingdong Dantes’ charms are too awesome to be confined locally. Now he’s set to conquer the world as one of TV channel E!’s "25 Sexiest Men in the World."

Brian N. Potter, E! Entertainment’s Rights and Clearances Supervisor, sent Dong’s manager Perry Lansigan this letter:

“We are currently producing a television program called ‘Sexiest: Men of the World’ (the ‘Production’) where we will feature 25 of the hottest males in the world. As part of the Production, we have decided to include Dingdong Dantes as one of the 25 Sexiest Men of the World! The list is still being generated but we can tell you as of the date of this letter that we have selected the following males: Gilles Marini (France); Kostas Martakhs (Greece); Michael Lewis (Israel); Dan Carter (New Zealand); and David Beckham (UK).

“Here is the series’ description: Young, blonde celebutantes may be what you’re used to seeing on news stands, but when it comes to appeasing the insatiable appetite of the world, you’ve got to serve up the hottest most delectable dishes imaginable!

“We cover the entire globe searching for the sexiest beach-hard bodies and delicious divas that can melt you with their voices and crush you with their sizzling sex appeal!

“We’ll also discuss studs that can capture your attention in a flash, pin-ups with deadly curves, famous footballers with all the right moves and their wives and girlfriends who bask in beauty.”

Sexiest GF

Dong’s GF Karylle is elated. “So that makes me the sexiest GF on earth (laughs),” K beamed. “More than Dong’s physical traits, it’s his taking time out to do things that make a difference, like the basketball league he organized to help people. He’s not vain. He thinks of others first before himself. For me that’s what makes a man.”

Dong is still jet-lagged from his trip to New York, but the good news jolted him out of his drowsiness. “It’s almost surreal. K and I love watching those countdowns on E! and now I’m part of it.”

For Dong, a good sense of humor is what makes a woman sexy. Advice to un-sexy men on how to woo women? “When you court a woman, it should come from the core of your personality,” Dong said. “Never pretend to be something you’re not. What matters is that you are unique, rather than going with the stereotypes.”

Dong has beaten all types without even trying. What makes Dong stand out from the rest is that he’s not stuck-up at all. With E!’s recognition, he is truly on top of the world!

Get my PLDT drift?

I had a blast at PLDT myDSL’s drifting event in Davao’s Damosa Market Basket last Aug. 16.
It was an awesome sight, speed and sound trip just like what the country’s top telecoms company’s broadband subscribers experience every time they log on to their “DSL world.”

The fastest growing motor sport is featured in the movie “Tokyo Drift.” It’s for those with tires and money to burn. Drifters never get tired of buying new tires. Basically, drifting is getting your car sideways down a road. Sounds a lot like power sliding huh? Well it isn’t.

It’s much more complex. Instead of a drifter causing a drift and then countering to straighten out, he will instead over-counter so his car goes into another drift. That is the reason many drifters do it in the mountains, because there are many sharp turns strung together.

So, in essence, a good drifter has the ability to take five or six opposing turns without having traction at any point in time.

Drift King

Drift King Dave Feliciano and the undisputed champion of the latest sport craze Alex Perez wowed Davaoeńos with their awesome drifting skills.

Dave is the man behind Dingdong Dantes’ car chase scenes in his Medicol ad and the drifting sequences in “Kamandag” before.

Dave’s drifting school (DMF) has celebrity students like Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, Marc Nelson, Beth Tamayo and Bryan Revilla.

“At first Lani Mercado was horrified when her son Bryan joined the race,” Dave revealed, “but when she saw how safe it is, game na rin siya.

“My drift car is my new GF because iba ang thrill that it gives me and no pain pa,” Bryan said. “Drifting is part of my lifestyle. Web browsing helps a lot, so I can watch videos of drifters on how to execute moves.”

His car’s goal for great speed reflects the need for fast Internet access via PLDT myDSL (P990 only, with up to 3MB and unlimited DSL plus landline).

‘Music sensation’

Nancy Castiliogne, who has reinvented herself and is now known as house music sensation Nancy Jane, joined the Speed Circuit tour that visited other key cities like Cebu and Pampanga. Heard that Nancy’s new love is a scion of a prominent clan in Davao. No wonder she extended her stay in Durian Republic.

The EB Babes made the event sizzle even more as MC Nathan and Rob Rodriguez of Killer Bee gave away cool prizes to the crowd. There was also a photo contest to capture the thrill of the event.

A final encounter between drifting experts and enthusiasts is set to rock the Greenhills open parking space on Aug. 30. Get a chance to hitch with Dave and Alex as they do the 360-degree turn, Figure 8, Reverse & 360 with doors open.

If I were not on medication for my DVT (deep vein thrombosis), I would have taken a joyride with the drifting gurus. Try everything once. Gotta feed my need for speed (either through myDSL or an exciting new thing like drifting or even speed dating!)

After-party

The jampacked Speed Circuit After-Party in Davao anchored by Manila’s premier house and R&B DJs Yoshi, Ace Ramos and Marlon was attended by vibrant partyphiles who live in the fast lane and surf on the fast (PLDT myDSL) line. As they promote car drifting, the premiere phone company also assures subscribers of always getting their drift (visit myworldmydsl.com).

PERSONAL: Thanks a mil to my fab “media sistahs” Shirley Pizarro and Lea Salterio, my newfound friends from PLDT Myla Villanueva, Tony Valdez and Gary Dujali for a splendid weekend in Davao. It was just an overnight trip but I had an overdose of good times (not to mention, I was overfed, too).
