MANILA, Philippines?A popular ex-comedienne has taken her final bow.
Zorayda Sanchez, a regular fixture of Pinoy comedy films in the 1980s to the early 1990s, passed away Wednesday at her family home in Angono, Rizal due to breast cancer. She was 57.
Sanchez was diagnosed with the disease a year ago.
After leaving an illustrious show biz career, starring in such films as ?Bagets,? ?Working Girls,? and ?Petrang Kabayo,? Sanchez had immersed herself in her other passion, writing, as a contributor for the Manila Bulletin. A cum-laude journalism graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, Sanchez was also a noted film and television scriptwriter.
Sanchez is survived by her daughter, Alexis.
Her remains lie in state at the Angono family residence. Interment plans will be announced later.
