MANILA, Philippines - During the premiere of a local movie, a friend asked the scriptwriter: “Why are you in black?”

Wordsmith’s reply: “I’m mourning the death of my film.” The script was mangled beyond recognition, the writer claimed.

Basket case

Also overheard, Show Biz Insider No. 1: “It’s good that the graduates [of a reality show] found gainful employment here.”

Show Biz Insider No. 2, testy: “Gainful? How much were they paid, P3,000?”

Show Biz Insider No. 3, jesting: “Actually, they’d be happy with fruit baskets.”

Tainted source

According to a mole, a Disgruntled Colleague leaked to the press the rumor that a Network Exec is in trouble with their bosses.

DC similarly got in hot water and blamed NE and company.

In front of reporters, however, DC, who mounted a big event recently, acted innocent and coy, refusing to comment on the matter.

Blogger’s latest targets

Remember Brian Gorrell’s habit-forming blog?

His latest target is a Show Biz Duo, who were also skewered in a White Paper that made the entertainment rounds recently.

When it rains, it pours for SBD. It’s almost as if there’s a concerted campaign to discredit the two.

Man haunt

Before joining a TV show, Gay Reality Contestant was a frequent visitor in a Quezon City “spa” which features masseurs who offer a unique kind of pampering.

GRC was allegedly addicted to the ministrations of one such masseur. So much so, that he asked the kid to quit and shack up with him. It was love at first rub.

Ma’am Maribeth

“Philippine Dream Academy” Season 1 Dance Mentor Maribeth Bichara is back on board to give the remaining contenders (Scholars) dance lessons and also to choreograph the upcoming Grand Dream Night.

We were told that the Scholars’ first session with “Teacher” Maribeth started with introducing themselves through dance. Liezl, who was found to be the most inhibited, got a dressing down from Maribeth.

Bionic granny

Remember Lee “Six Million-Dollar Man” Majors? He’s due in the country in September to appear at the special by-invitation-only Green Carpet Premiere of Cartoon Network’s live-action made-for-TV CGI film, “BEN 10: Race Against Time” at SM Mall of Asia’s Premier Cinema.

In “BEN 10,” Majors plays the key role of Grandpa Max, who uses his past experiences with the paranormal to protect his grandchildren.

The DD file

LOS ANGELES—David Duchovny has entered a rehabilitation facility for sex addiction.

In a statement released Thursday by his lawyer, Stanton Stein, the actor said he did so voluntarily, adding: “I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family.”

The actor’s publicist, Flo Grace, confirmed the report, which first appeared on People.com. She did not elaborate.

Duchovny, 48, plays a sex-obsessed character on the Showtime series “Californication,” which earned Emmy nods for casting and cinematography. The show’s second season begins Sept. 28. AP
(Uh, is this for real—or did they get a copy of “Promoting RP Movies 101”?)

Friends and brothers

VENICE—Brad Pitt and George Clooney hit the red carpet on Wednesday with their latest movie “Burn After Reading,” a satirical comedy by Oscar winners the Coen brothers which opens this year’s Venice film festival. The actors bring A-list star power to the 11-day event which features everything from obscure Asian art house cinema to Hollywood heavyweights. Reuters

Off again

LOS ANGELES—“Desperate Housewives” star Nicollette Sheridan and singer Michael Bolton have called off their engagement, the actress’ spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

Bolton, 55, and Sheridan, 44, started dating in 1992 but broke up five years later. They revived their relationship three years ago and announced their engagement in 2006. Reuters

‘Dreamgirl’ for Obama

LOS ANGELES—Oscar-winning actress and singer Jennifer Hudson will sing the US national anthem at the Democratic National Convention in Denver on Thursday, the night Barack Obama accepts his party’s nomination for president. Hudson, 26, is a native of Obama’s home town of Chicago. Reuters

Cruise for cash

BERLIN—Twelve movie extras are seeking $11 million in damages from Tom Cruise and his production company after suffering broken bones, cuts and bruises in the filming of World War II picture “Valkyrie” in Berlin last year. The extras were injured on Aug. 19, 2007, when the side panel of a period German army truck burst open as it drove around a corner in central Berlin. Reuters

Still at it

LOS ANGELES—Madonna has always reveled in controversy and with the recent launch of her concert tour.

“Sticky & Sweet,” the 50-year-old pop star has kicked up a new fuss by comparing John McCain to Adolf Hitler in a video. Reuters

Oldest TV dancer

LOS ANGELES—Octogenarian actress Cloris Leachman has joined the cast of celebrities who will grace the ballroom floor on the next edition of ABC television hit “Dancing With the Stars,” the network said on Monday.

Leachman, 82, an Oscar winner for her 1971 supporting role in “The Last Picture Show” and a record Primetime Emmy champion for her TV work, becomes the oldest contestant to compete on the US’ second-most watched series.
The previous ranking senior on “Dancing with the Stars” was actor George Hamilton, who danced at age 66 in season two in early 2006, the Walt Disney Co-owned network said. Reuters
