Three dads and a KC

MANILA, Philippines - Most of us have only one father but KC Concepcion, by her own account, has had three. Well, that goes to further prove, in addition to all her other plus factors, that KC is different from you and me!

It all began, quite expectedly, with Sharon Cuneta and Gabby Concepcion getting married and happily welcoming baby KC to the world. After a few generally turbulent years, the marriage turned sour, Gabby left for the States, and Sharon had to raise KC as a single mother.

This, KC recalled recently on Channel 2?s ?The Buzz,? was when her second ?dad? stepped into the breech: Sharon?s father, Mayor Pablo Cuneta, did his best to be around little KC as often as he could, to provide his granddaughter with the male presence she needed to have a normal childhood.

The move appears to have worked, because KC has grown up into a fine young adult?with more than a little help from her third dad, Sen. Francis ?Kiko? Pangilinan, who married Sharon when KC was an adolescent.

Since Kiko has been in KC?s life the longest, it can be said that he is her most significant fatherly influence. Which is why KC is properly and even effusively grateful to him, for providing the complete familial context that young people need to come into their own.

Which is not to say that KC has forgotten her biological dad, Gabby. Sometime ago, on her own initiative, she visited him and his new family in the States, and they tried to make up for their many years of estrangement.

According to both KC and Gabby, the move was successful, and this may in fact have been a factor in Gabby?s decision to come home and resume his acting career here.

Now that Gabby is here, however, the situation has become a bit more complicated for KC (not to mention for Sharon), in relation to her two remaining dads.

For her part, Sharon has very wisely been avoiding all projects and even public encounters with Gabby, for fear that the usual suspects will use those occasions to ?play around? with them in the media. She points out that she and Gabby now have new families of their own, so enough already.

But KC may not be able to deal with the situation so clearly. She?s the one with multiple dads, so she?ll have to find a modus vivendi for each, or both.

To help ease things for her, both Gabby and Kiko should cut her some slack, do their best to understand her, and not make any conflicting demands on her and her affections.

If everyone pitches in for genuine love of KC, she should be able to survive, surmount and even triumph over her potentially dodgy situation.

?High School Musical 3?

After two hit TV movies, the ?High School Musical? franchise finally hits the big screen with ?High School Musical 3: Senior Year.? Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tinsdale return to the roles they created in their first two outings. Kenny Ortega again directs.

?Senior Year? finds Troy and Gabriella (Efron and Hudgens) facing the prospect of separation as they head off to different colleges. Joined by the rest of the Wildcats team, they stage an elaborate musical reflecting their experiences, hopes and fears about the future.

With new songs and exciting dance numbers designed to take maximum advantage of the big movie screen, the extravaganza delivers plenty of high-energy entertainment from East High?s spirited ensemble.

Production numbers are staged on the basketball court, on a rooftop, in a junkyard and in a tree house, among other unusual locales. And dances are performed in a mix of funk and hip-hop, as well as ballet and ballroom. Other young leads include Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman.
