MANILA, Philippines?Twenty-four hours are never enough for a busy working mom.
To effectively manage her time, TV host-dancer Regine Tolentino has decided to renovate the family home to include her boutique, dance studio, office and workshop.
Talk about a one-stop-shop. All her passions under one roof.
She recounts: ?I used to have a hard time. I had to drive to a different place to meet my clients and supervise my staff. Now, everything runs smoothly, in spite of a full schedule almost every day.?
Daily routine
Five days a week, she leaves for work as early as 2 or 4 a.m, to host the GMA 7 morning show, ?Unang Hirit.? (Her schedule became more hectic with the addition of her costuming chores for TV5?s ?Shall We Dance? and choreography work for GMA 7?s ?SOP.?)
When she gets home, she meets with clients, designs clothes and checks on her staff in the workshop. In the afternoon, she works out or rehearses in the dance studio. ?I get to save a lot of time, since everything is within reach,? she notes.
What she saves in commuting time, she devotes to her two daughters Reigne, 9, and Reigen, 7. ?I make sure to spend one meal with them,? she says.
At dinner time, the entire family, including hubby Lander Vera-Perez and parents George and Regina, gathers at the eight-seater table which, according to Regine, is an original Versace. ?My mom got it in Italy. Most of our furniture pieces are from Europe.?
Filipiniana
The home, which stands on a 2,900 square-meter property in Quezon City, was spruced up by her mom, with the help of interior decorator Freddie Mercado.
Mom?s collections of Lladro figures, Swarovski crystals and Grecian blue-and-whites are displayed in French cabinets. The cushy sofa?s design is Milanese, mom Regina explains.
Although predominantly European, there are touches of Filipiniana in the décor. The Santo Niño in the sala is a gift from Regine to her mom. ?I got it in Paete, Laguna.?
Mom Regina says the pair of ?Mother and Child? paintings (circa 1999, by Brando Bati) in the living room has been featured in a coffee table book.
One of Regine?s favorite spots is her office, which she decorated with her collection of body forms, a vintage chandelier and a divider filled with family snapshots.
?I got the chandelier from my mom?s bodega, while the divider is a wedding gift (circa 1997),? she relates.
Her daughters? bedroom is a virtual valley of dolls?teeming with toys owned by the girls as well as by their mom.
?All my favorite things are in this house,? Regine says.
