Visiting Vicki Belo's home

The house that fat built

MAKATI CITY, Philippines -- It was a gloomy day when I visited a glorious house that rests on earnings from pounds of cellulite, flat noses and dark skin -- the residence of famed cosmetic surgeon and director of the Belo Medical Group Dr. Vicki Belo.

Not that the somber weather had anything to do with the nature of work Belo does, but it was nonetheless paradoxical to the marvelous establishment Belo simply calls her home.

Belo's son Quark Henares, a busy man who teaches, writes, directs films, commercials and music videos, manages a band, and owns a bar and recording studio, spent the afternoon touring me around their house, stopping every so often to give blurbs about this and that.

Quark was particularly ecstatic when it came to his room where he showed me his various collections from pricey vinyl toys to dope kicks that make his every step on the ground burst with color -- okay not literally burst with color, but really just much more noticeable.

Whatever superficiality that will forever transpire in the lives of the unsatisfied individuals that lurk in this world will contribute to the opulence of those who guarantee them this temporary happiness.
Go on, watch the video of our tour of the Belo home.
