MANILA, Philippines - Rhian Ramos' coming-out party at the Manila Peninsula in Makati City Friday night was really a publicity blitz for her new soap on GMA 7.
Network exec Wilma Galvante said so: "You're not here just to party, Rhian, you're here to promote."
GMA 7 was a major sponsor of the party. Thus, Rhian's escort was JC de Vera, her leading man in the local adaptation of the Argentine series "La Lola." Program's host was Marvin Agustin, also a co-star.
There was a twist to the traditional 18 Candles (presented to the debutante by 18 close girlfriends): Rhian had to answer 18 questions from GMA 7 officials and some members of the entertainment press. And most of her partners for the 18 Roses dance were Kapuso artists, too.
As for her birthday wish, Rhian said: "I hope people watch 'La Lola.' I'd like the show to do really well."
Color motif for the party held at The Pen's Rigodon Ballroom was red, white and black. Twenty tables that seated 10 each were set up in the 500-capacity function room.
Mark Bautista and The Bloomfields performed after GMA Films president Annette Gozon-Abrogar led the ceremonial wine-toasting. The guests-including actors Iza Calzado, German Moreno, Eddie Garcia, Kris Bernal and film producer Lily Monteverde-got gift bags when the program ended just after midnight.
