MANILA, Philippines- Next time around, the people behind ABS-CBN?s ?Pinoy Dream Academy Little Dreamers? should seriously screen the songs that the child contestants will perform. Last Sept. 21, it was quite disturbing to see a 6-year-old girl aping the seductive gestures of a love-struck adult temptress as she sang, ?A few stolen moments are all that we share, you?ve got your family and they need you there ...? These, of course are the opening lines of Whitney Houston?s ?Saving All My Love For You.?
The little girl obviously had no idea that she was singing the acknowledged national anthem of mistresses. To make matters worse, the seemingly ?encouraging? and annoyingly clueless board of judges even awarded her with the Most Outstanding Performer plum, which seemed to say it was all right for her to perform that very mature ?way beyond her years? number.
Singing is not only about flawless technique and being pitch perfect; it is also about connecting with the audience by telling a story and/or delivering a message. How could the production people think it was okay for a little girl to sing of a mistress? woes?
