MANILA, Philippines?(UPDATE) ABS-CBN has suspended controversial talk show host-columnist Cristy Fermin for two months, the television network said in a statement sent to INQUIRER.net Wednesday.
According to the statement, the network suspended Fermin?s contract as anchorperson of the daily radio show ?Showbiz Mismo? over dzMM and co-host of the weekly showbiz-oriented talk show ?The Buzz? until December 31.
The suspension was due to Fermin?s ?violations of certain provisions thereof in relation to her statements during the October 5, 2008 episode of ?The Buzz?.? In that episode, Fermin alleged that former actress Nadia Montenegro secretly gave birth to a child out of wedlock two years ago.
Montenegro filed a complaint at the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board on Tuesday against Fermin over the on-air charges that she said were ?lies.?
?It was deemed that Ms. Fermin did not conduct herself with due regard to social conventions and public morals. Her statements went beyond the bounds of decency as they involved innocent children who are not party to their personal dispute. Ms. Fermin's statements violated the highest standards of professionalism and journalistic integrity,? the statement said.
?The act committed by Ms. Fermin brought her and ?The Buzz? to public disrepute, jeopardizing the name and goodwill of both the show and the network,? it added. Bayani San Diego Jr. and Gerry Plaza
