RUSHES SUNDAY
Pulp friction and bionic reminiscence

MANILA, Philippines - Ages ago, a movie reporter asked Young Action Star: ?Is your new movie based on real life??

Quipped YAS, confidently: ?No, it?s friction.?

Fast forward to the here and now. YAS has run for public office ... and won.

Most hated manager

A Talent Manager has incurred the ire of the fans of a US-based Star.

It?s not just because of the perceived ?mishandling? of their idol?s career.

?TM has the habit of borrowing money from fans,? said a source.

Long-lost twin

A mole reports that a Flesh Peddler in Tarlac looks uncannily like a Kapamilya Actor.

Told of the resemblance, FP retorted, proudly: ?I?m more handsome ha.?

Guy trouble

People close to Singer-Actress think that her Actor-Boyfriend?s success has changed the guy ... for the worse.

AB keeps using SA in his publicity stunts, said a source. ?He has become so image-conscious. His handlers constantly create controversies at her expense.?

The source surmised that AB resorts to gimmicks because the notoriety can lead to more advertising deals.

Two for Marian

Marian Rivera has bagged two entries in this December?s Metro Manila Film Festival??Desperadas 2? and ?Shake, Rattle and Roll X,? said Regal producer Lily Monteverde.

In the horror franchise, Marian was a last-minute replacement for an award-winning comedienne who had to drop out of the project.

Fondness for Pinoys

There?s no getting away from Imelda Marcos, visiting actor Lee Majors told the Inquirer as he reminisced about his first trip to Manila in the ?70s, when he came to do a movie which was eventually aborted. Billeted in a hotel by the bay, the ?Six Million Dollar Man? was invited by the then First Lady for lunch and dinner at the Palace, which turned out to be one big party.

?I told Imelda, ?this place sure can hold a lot of hay,?? referring to the big open space which later turned into a disco, with Imelda turning the heat on the dance floor. Later in the night, singer-composer Paul Williams was entertaining guests with a song when he was cut short by who else but Imelda, who ?grabbed the mic from Paul and won?t let him back.? ?She wanted to be a singer so badly,? the actor quipped.

After that first trip to Manila, Majors has since developed fondness for Filipinos, whom he said were very easy to spot even in a multiracial country like the United States. ?A lot of times I walk by and they go, ?toot-toot-toot-toot-toot-toot,? giving me the old bionic sound. I kinda know they?re from the Philippines. They?re the only ones who can do that. They?re so cute.?

Slim Shady?s back

DETROIT?Eminem, the man recently named ?Best Rapper Alive? by a poll of Vibe magazine readers, has returned in a major way.

His new track, ?I?m Having a Relapse,? has caused a stir on the Web and is fueling talk of a new record and maybe even a tour.

But before Eminem moves forward musically, he?s taking a step back with a recently published memoir.

The book ?The Way I Am? answers a few lingering controversies and questions, including his 2000 arrest for pistol-whipping a man who kissed his wife (?Guns are bad, I tell you?); his substance-abuse problem (?I?m glad that I realized it and set myself in the right direction?); the flap over his perceived homophobia (?Ultimately, who you choose to be in a relationship with and what you do in your bedroom is your business?); and ethnicity (?Honestly, I?d love to be remembered as one of the best to ever pick up a mic, but if I?m doing my part to lessen some racial tension I feel good about what I?m doing.?). Sasha who?

LOS ANGELES?Beyonce Knowles would like to be known by a bold new name. The R&B singer has christened herself ?Sasha Fierce? for her new double album, ?I Am ... Sasha Fierce,? due in US stores on Nov. 18, and has released a lengthy justification for the comical moniker. Reuters

Quotable quotes

?She?s a very good friend. I?m supporting her in all the ways that I can. I?m just there for her. I speak to her a lot.? ?Gwyneth Paltrow, who?s helping her friend Madonna through the breakup of her marriage to Guy Ritchie.

?I don?t know what people are scared of. Maybe they think their children will be influenced (by gay marriage), but I?ve got to tell you, I was raised by two heterosexuals. Everywhere I looked?heterosexuals. And they did not influence me. It?s time we love people for who they are and let them love who they want.??Ellen DeGeneres, who?s urging voters to oppose a ballot initiative in California that would ban same-sex marriage. AP
