MANILA, Philippines—Cinema One’s “Shake, Rattle and Roll” Halloween party in Boracay was a CHILLing success.
Lunar-powered creatures on Paradise island chilled with Coverboys Jon Avila, Rafael Rosell, Marvin Raymundo, Victor Basa, John James Uy and Ron Morales, model Regine Angeles and actor IC Mendoza. Actress Roxanne Guinoo and comedian Chokoleit hosted the event.
Island people came garbed in their spookiest best. What place could be more fun than Aklan (where Bora is located) on Oct. 31, since folklore has associated the province with spooky creatures? A myth, of course, but one that has sufficiently tickled Pinoy imagination.
“Kinarir talaga nila ang pag-costume,” Roxanne exclaimed. A hunchback dragging a coffin bagged the Best Costume award. The drop dead gorgeous Coverboys gamely joined the contestants in reenacting scenes from “Shake Rattle & Roll.”
The LRT and Yaya episodes of the classic Pinoy Regal thriller were shown on a giant screen to get the creepy mood going. Witching hour continued as DJ Darell D spun on. Cinema One gave Halloween revelers all treats and no tricks.
Ghost of the past
I teased Roxanne “Isn’t the ghost of your past Jake Cuenca haunting you?” She sighed. “Di nga siya sumama sa Coverboys kahit part siya ng grupo. Baka busy. Pero okay na rin na wala siya para di na kami ma-intriga.”
She’d rather be deadma to rumors that Jake hurt her physically in Guam when she confronted him about Bea Alonzo. Has she buried her feelings for him dead or alive?
Other revelers
Other celebrities spotted in Bora were lovebirds Marc Nelson and Thai sensation Paula Taylor, Heart Evangelista, Sunshine Dizon, Michelle Madrigal and her non-show biz BF, Chris Tiu, Norman Black, the Ateneo basketball team, “Amazing Race” couple Tisha Silang and Geoff Rodriguez and Borgy Manotoc, whom I almost didn’t recognize with his hippie long hair.
I cornered Borgy. “You don’t have a girlfriend by choice or circumstance?” He chuckled. “By choice due to circumstance.” Why the long hair? “I didn’t grow it on purpose,” he said. “I just forgot to have a haircut for two years.” Call it the Marcos HEIRstyle.
I asked Chris Tiu why he doesn’t join show biz since he already has a captive market. “Hosting and commercials lang ako,” he said. “My family wants me to help out in our business.” Is he going to join the PBA? “I’m more inclined to join the national team.” The basketball savvy of the Pambansang Crush really ought to be elevated to the pambansang level.
With Cinema One, “ang buhay parang sine.” And for one wickedly fun night in Bora, the premier movie channel also made it “parang party!” They really got the perfect movie brew to keep you bewitched and bewildered.
