MANILA, Philippines?Sherad Anthony Sanchez?s ?Imburnal? won Best Picture in the Cinema One Originals digital film festival awards ceremony held at ABS-CBN?s Dolphy Theater on Friday.
It?s the second time for Sanchez to top the festival; he won the same prize for ?Huling Balyan ng Buhi? in 2006.
?Imburnal? also won grand prize in the Digital Lokal competition of this year?s Cinemanila International Film Festival.
Cinema One jurors cited ?Imburnal,? which also won Best Screenplay for Sanchez, for ?realistic, nearly naturalistic, depiction of the underside of Davao City.?
Jury Prize went to Ruello Lozendo?s ?Kolorete,? for ?its bold attempt at recreating the Spanish period of Philippine history,? according to the jurors.
Audience Award
Audience Award went to ?Yanggaw,? megged by Richard Somes, who also won Best Director. ?Yanggaw? also figured prominently in the acting derbies.
Best Supporting Actress went to Tetchie Agbayani for ?Yanggaw,? and Best Supporting Actor to her co-star Joel Torre.
Ronnie Lazaro (?Yanggaw?) tied with Mark Gil (?Alon?) for Best Actor.
While veterans dominated the other acting categories, a newcomer, Charee Pineda of ?Alon,? cinched the Best Actress trophy.
Other winners: Best Cinematography, John Torres, Joel Geolamen and Jose Bagane Fiola for ?Imburnal?; Production Design, Wilfredo Calderon, Kat Compuesto and Maisa Demetillo for ?Kolorete?; Sound, Joey Santos and Eduardo Velasquez for ?Yanggaw?; Editing, Borgy Torre for ?Yanggaw?; Musical Score, Leujim C. Martinez for ?Alon.?
The jury consisted of film critics Grace Javier Alfonso and Lito Zulueta, actress Eugene Domingo, and filmmakers Jeffrey Jeturian and Brillante Mendoza.
