MANILA, Philippines??Love and Marriage,? a music video about an interracial wedding, was declared the Grand Prize winner at the recent 2nd Animahenasyon Pinoy Animation Festival.
Kenny Lyn Tai, an animation student of the College of St. Benilde, received a trophy and a grant from the National Center for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Her work, a seven-minute narrative, tackles racial prejudice between the Chinese and Filipino communities.
?The work is superior in technique, design and narration,? said juror Pablo Biglang-Awa, a veteran animator. ?It is clear, entertaining and very engaging.?
Tai bagged two other Best Animation Awards, one in the student/amateur division for ?Love and Marriage? (Category I/ 6-20 minutes); and another for ?Carrot Series? (Category K/ Demo Reels).
?Just-Tiis League,? an opening billboard (OBB) that pays tribute to the man on the street, was the recipient of the Jury Prize. Its creator is Ivan Despi of the animation company Acid House. ?It is very sophisticated and very Pinoy,? Biglang-awa said.
?Just-Tiis League? was also declared winner of the Best Animation Award (Category F/ OBB) in the professional division. Despi copped other awards in the same division for his music video ?We Give in Sometimes? and short film ?Katchatore.?
This year?s Best Regional Entry is Raul Mimay?s ?Sa Gabos na Panahon,? about Bicolanos? devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia. It was produced by the Naga City Investment Board (NCIB).
Rjay B. Morada?s ?Lupang Hinirang? was the Best Animation winner of Category H (1-5 minutes, shorts) in the student/animation division. Ruark Vallen S. Tapel won in Category J (Music Video) for ?Some Say.?
The awards show was held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Nov. 15. Animahenasyon is an annual fest produced by the Animation Council of the Philippines.
The five-day event seeks to encourage the development of original Filipino content in animation.
